Anne Geddes Woodland Fairy and Sprite

Masterpiece Dolls has chosen 3 classic Anne Geddes babies to feature in their May 2008 doll group. They chose Anne's photo of three real babies dressed in hats decoratively detailed with pansies and seated in decorated tin cans. Anne created the image in her studio in NEW ZEALAND in 1995, and has included it again in her latest book "A Labor of Love," her autobiography, introduced this past fall to rave reviews.

Anne recounts that the inspiration behind these images from her first coffee table book, the international bestseller "Down in the Garden," came from a tale that her Studio Manager Natalie, once related to her. Anne says, "When Natalie was three years of age, whilst playing in her grandmother's garden, she bent down to pick a pansy. Her grandmother, who was gardening at the time, hid behind a bush and just as Natalie was about to pick the flower, Natalie heard what she thought was the pansy say in a tiny squeaky voice, ‘Oh, please don't pick me!’ So you see, pansies perhaps really do have faces."

The pansy papier-mâché containers, which are based on original illustrations of old jam labels, were also motivated from Anne's recollection as a child, of using old discarded rusty tins for planting seedlings.

Masterpiece decided it would be fun to adapt this look and recreate them as baby dolls with different ethnicities. Anne has named the Caucasian, Eliza, the African American, Grace, and the Asian, Chloe. Laura Tuzio-Ross has once again, under Anne's direction, created three incredible new sculpts. Their expressions are adorable and Laura is unsurpassed in her ability to capture different ethnic facial details. The hands were also specially sculpted, so they could be posed on the edge of the containers, similar to the original look.

Each silicone/vinyl baby is 19" with arms sculpted above the elbow and fully sculpted legs that attach directly into their doe skin cloth body. They are filled with soft fiber and weighted with pellets to make them huggable. They can be placed in their containers as shown or cuddled in your arms.

* Medium brown baby-fine wig and pretty blue eyes.

* A papier-mâché container decorated with the original design applied to it in the same artistic manner as the original tins. The container is lined in brown felt to protect the body as you place her in the container.

We are pleased to introduce the Anne Geddes line of collectible baby dolls. This new doll line is inspired by Anne's critically acclaimed, and much loved photography and her passion for babies.

The first doll in the collection, the hand numbered 2008 Annual Edition 20" silicone/vinyl Woodland Fairy, as featured in these photographs, has an adorable face that was inspired by Anne's images. Anne is working with well known artist, Laura Tuzio- Ross to translate her vision into this line of numbered Anne Geddes dolls.

The Woodland Fairy doll was inspired by Anne’s Woodland Fairy images which can be seen in her new book :Labor of Love" and her 2008 calendar.

The unique outfit for this first collectible doll was specially designed by Anne and features incredible detailing:

Dainty pink and green embroidered appliqué detailing on her hat

Beautiful artwork on her detachable wings

A petticoat with layers of tulle and sheared fabric that can be worn either underneath or on top of her tunic (see photos above)

A soft green onesie adorned with beautiful dainty pink trim detailing

The 20" Woodland Fairy doll will be produced in the soft silicone/vinyl that everyone loves to touch and that adds a special glow to the skin tone of each doll

She will have a baby soft fiber wig.

The arms are sculpted above the elbow with full legs that attach at the hips to the cloth body.

The Woodland Fairy will come with a simulated piece of wood for her to rest on as seen above.

Each doll is a hand numbered 2008 Annual Edition.

New packaging has been specially designed for the Anne Geddes Collectible Doll Line.

The Woodland Sprite is a 2008 hand numbered Annual Edition, Ht 24", produced in silicone/vinyl which is a beautifully soft feeling vinyl. Anne has worked with well known artist, Laura Tuzio-Ross to translate her vision into this line of numbered Anne Geddes dolls. The Sprite is sculpted with arms above the elbow and full length legs that attach at the hip joint. The soft brown baby fine wig frames the beautiful face.

This first Woodland Sprite is being released to coincide with Anne's new book, "A Labor of Love" which will be supported by a public relations and publicity tour around the USA and Europe. The Woodland Sprite was inspired by Anne's Woodland baby images which can be seen in her new book and her 2008 Calendar. Watch for Anne on Good Morning America on October 24, 2007.

The very special outfit for the Woodland Sprite was specially designed by Anne and features the following incredible details.

* Pressed felt hat and boots tinted with the accent colors to match the outfit.

* The outfit is made of a stretchy jersey material that ties in front with tiny dark brown rawhide loops. The front of the outfit is accented with a two tone group of specially shaped leaves.

* The shirt is tied in back and is made of a self pleated gauzy material with unfinished edges on the sleeves to give the rustic woodland feel to the outfit.
